The hospital will bill your insurance carrier shortly after health care services have been provided. As a convenience to you, we will only send you a billing statement after your insurance company has paid and there is a balance due from you, or in the event we are unable to obtain payment from them.
Insurance Plans Accepted
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin facilities accept most insurance plans. Please review a list of the insurance companies and plans that work with us. The list, however, does not guarantee coverage. It is your responsibility to verify your eligibility and that your insurance plan will cover medical services performed at our hospitals, health centers and clinics.
Patients without health insurance may receive a discount off of their hospital bill.
Processing Your Bill With Your Insurance
If you have health insurance, we will only send you a statement after your insurance company has paid and there is a balance due from you or in the event we are unable to obtain payment from your insurance company. You may receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) before receiving an actual bill.
You may receive a separate bill from another provider organization that works in affiliation with Froedtert, such as a physician bill. Please see “Why am I receiving two bills for the same service?” in the Billing & Insurance FAQ for more information.
It’s Important to Know if You Need Precertification
It is important for you to know if your insurance requires preauthorization or precertification in order to ensure payment is made for your services. You can contact them to learn whether authorization is needed. If you are told certain requirements must be met, please inform your physician’s office at time of scheduling to avoid delays in processing your services and/or admission to the hospital.
While you do your part to understand your insurance requirements, our staff are also working hard to obtain preauthorization if it is required. Staff will notify you if there are issues obtaining an authorization.
If You Don’t Have Insurance
In the event you don’t have insurance you will be asked for a deposit prior to receiving services. A bill will be sent shortly after services are rendered requesting payment of the balance due. If you are unable to pay the entire amount, or wish to make payment arrangements, please contact Patient Financial Services Department at the phone number on your bill.
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network serves the community by providing medical care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay. If you are without health insurance, a financial counselor can help you find out if you are eligible for available programs including Medicaid and the Financial Assistance Program. You can reach a Financial Counselor at 800-466-9670.
Financial Assistance is available to patients with an identified need, including uninsured patients and patients who are insured but can’t afford their deductible and co-insurance. We can determine if you qualify for Financial Assistance based on your income, expenses and assets.
