The purpose of this PGY1 residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Requirements and Expectations

The following are some of the requirements and expectations for participants in the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (Ambulatory Focus) at Froedtert Hospital:

  2. Conferences
    • ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • Vizient Academic Medical Center Pharmacy Conference
    • Great Lakes Pharmacy Resident Conference (GLPRC)
    • Milwaukee Residency Conferences (three/year)
    • PSW Annual Meeting (optional)
    • PSW Educational Conference (optional)
  3. Formal Presentations
    • Vizient Academic Medical Center Pharmacy Resident Poster Presentation aligned with the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting
    • GLPRC or WPRC Podium or Poster Presentation
  4. Pharmacy Staffing
    • A staffing component will be required throughout the PGY1 year and may include staffing in retail and/or ambulatory care areas.
  5. Departmental Meetings
    • Weekly resident discussions
    • Weekly journal clubs
    • Monthly department staff meetings
    • Monthly administrative discussions
    • Monthly medication safety discussions
    • Monthly committee meetings (rotating)
  6. Licensure
    • Licensed as a pharmacist in the state of Wisconsin (required within 90 days of hire)
  7. Other
    • Minimum eight hours/day (Monday through Friday)
    • Assist and support department in additional ways as needed
    • Complete assignments and evaluations on a timely basis
    • Coordinate Pharmacy Week activities within the hospital
    • Coordinate an administrative area for the department
